I’m a decent person, and I always treat people with respect.

I know I’m not perfect, but other people are a lot worse!

I don’t feel like I need forgiveness.

Comparison is a natural instinct.

We evaluate ourselves by seeing how we measure up against others – how well we fit into society’s standards.

But what if society’s standards are wrong?

What’s the use of being “good” if what people call “goodness” is really brokenness?

Comparison might make you feel decent, but it won’t lead you to what is truly good and life-giving.
Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good, pleasing, and perfect.
Romans 12:2

Stop comparing

Part of being human is processing a mixture of both good and bad qualities

Love, hope, and faith are exhibited by people who also act in anger and greed.

Regardless of comparison, we have all failed to meet God’s perfect standards.

We all feel shame for the things we’ve done wrong.

But there is good news:

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.
1 John 1:9

Ready and available

No matter where our faults lie on society's spectrum of good and evil, they can still separate us from God.

But when we acknowledge our imperfections and bring them to God, he makes us a new creation in him.
